The Fund exists to connect people to local causes so that together we can build a stronger Seymour. It invests in projects and initiatives aimed at building the capacity, strength, cohesiveness and wellbeing of the local community. Projects and organisations funded will benefit the district’s population, today and into the future.
The Seymour District encompasses the following towns and local, small communities in these postcodes: 3660 (Seymour, Northwood, Whiteheads Creek, Hilldene, Trawool), 3662 (Puckapunyal), 3663 (Mangalore), 3664 (Avenel), 3659 (Tallarook) and 3764 (Glenaroua).
The Seymour District Charitable Fund is a sub-fund of the Australian Communities Foundation, which ensures the following benefits:
• donations are fully tax deductible, and
• donations are invested into a professionally managed investment fund.
Grants to charitable organisations located, or operating, in the Seymour district will be made annually from the interest earned from the invested funds.
The seed funding for the Seymour District Charitable Fund is thanks to two special citizens – Isobel Robinson (1916– 2010) and Mary Munckton OAM (1923– 2014) – two women who loved Seymour and its local communities. They gave countless hours of work and support to local community groups and were generous donors to many organisations in the district. The Seymour District Charitable Fund continues their generosity and commitment to Seymour and its people and encourages others to follow in their footsteps.

An Advisory Committee, comprising local people, oversees and directs the operations of the Seymour District Charitable Fund. The Committee drives fundraising efforts to grow the fund, determines annual grants to local community organisations, and reviews the investment returns and management of the sub-fund by Australian Communities Foundation.
The Seymour District Charitable Fund will fund charities and community organisations and projects that:
• encourage community involvement
• address disadvantage or support vulnerable people
• influence social fairness
• contribute to improved health and wellbeing
• encourage environmental awareness and sustainable activities
• support and encourage recreation and community building
• contribute to maintaining Seymour’s cultural richness and heritage.
Criteria for grants
The Seymour District Charitable Fund seeks to support community organisations and projects that:
• build on local community strengths and assets
• benefit a broad segment of the community
• improve organisational sustainability
• stimulate support from other funding sources
• expand opportunities for people on low-incomes and facing disadvantage
• develop community pride and commitment
• have a strong, collaborative, voluntary contribution
• involve a cross-section of people in project planning and decision-making.
The Covid-19 pandemic and its restrictions turned our lives upside down and changed many things including the way the Seymour District Charitable Fund supports the Seymour community.
Instead of calling for applications for funding, we asked local charities what were the new challenges and difficulties for their organisations and the people they support. We worked with them to identify funding gaps and additional needs.
The Seymour District Charitable Fund invites residents, local businesses and anybody who cares about the Seymour community to make a donation. All donations will help to build this fund, which supports Seymour today and into the future. Donations over $2 are tax deductible.

By mail
Cheques are also accepted and should be made payable to “Australian Communities Foundation”. Please identify that it is for the Seymour District Charitable Fund and provide your name and address so that a tax-deductible receipt can be issued. Cheques should be sent to Australian Communities Foundation (ACF), Level 6, 126 Wellington Parade, East Melbourne VIC 3002.
